Winemaker's Notes 2022 Grüner Veltliner

“With an almost “perfect” growth season until the very beginning of September in 2022, the vintage was suddenly affected by extreme heat over an extended period of time, thrusting the harvest of Whites into a frenzy of “all at once” crushing.
Unlike Reds, White wines don’t present any real options for letting the fruit hang a bit longer.  As such, the 2022 season will be remembered as as the “Tale of Two Harvests”, since rain quickly followed the extended heat influence, and added extra hang time for the Red Wine production.
Grüner Veltliner is a dry white varietal grown largely in Austria - the name translates to “Green Wine of Veltlin”.
An exotic alternative to Sauvignon Blanc, the primary fruit flavors in Grüner Veltliner are lime, lemon, grapefruit and green peppercorn. There is also a green and herbaceous flavor that is often described as white pepper. High quality Grüner wine will have a delicate tingly aftertaste.”
